2023-2024

Melinda Heights Elementary PTA

Straight Donation Fundraiser

Melinda Heights depends on our amazing community to help raise funds that support the various PTA-sponsored enrichment programs for our kids! One of our fundraising efforts is a tax deductible Straight Donation Pledge.

The Melinda Heights PTA has two main fundraisers this year: a Straight Donation Fundraiser in the fall and a Jog-a-Thon Fundraiser in the spring. Your child will not be asked to sell any products! With these fundraisers, 100% of the money donated goes directly to the Melinda Heights' PTA. In turn, every dime goes directly to the programs and needs of YOUR child(ren).

The Straight Donation Fundraiser will remain open all year, but prizes are only eligible until October 1. Thank you for your generosity!

If you have a company matching your donation,

or any donation questions, please contact: fundraising@mhpta.org

Our goal is to raise $20,000. In typical years, PTA raises close to $30,000 through this fundraiser. Remember, no matter the size of your donation, every dollar helps and we thank you for supporting the PTA's efforts to provide our children with invaluable programs and resources. Please donate today!

*To be eligible for prizes, the donation must be received no later than October 1, 2023.

All donations contribute to school-wide enrichment programs at Melinda Heights, such as:

Awards:

The PTA provides the ROAR buttons awarded to select 1-6 grade students each trimester. Additionally, the PTA provides the promotion certifications for all 6th graders.

Book Exchange:  In the Spring, the PTA offers the opportunity for students to turn in school age books for a ticket to get "new" books.  For every two books turned in, a student gets a ticket for one "new" book.  All left over books are donated to a women's shelter.

Campus Beautification: The PTA makes our campus a better place. In 2019-2020, we upgraded the backpack hooks for classrooms and added art to the students' bathrooms.

Classroom Supplies: At the beginning of the year, the PTA gives each MHE teacher funds to use on classroom enrichment materials of their choosing.

Educational Online Programs - Accelerated Reader & Lexia:  The PTA pays for

online educational programs like Accelerated Reader and Lexia.

Accelerated Reader is an online program that tests students for comprehension in books that they have read. Lexia is an online learning program that supports educators in providing differentiated literacy instruction for students of all abilities.  This program is 100% funded by the PTA.

Emergency Preparedness/Safety: The PTA stocks and maintains a disaster bin at the school that includes emergency food rations, water, first aid and hygiene supplies.  We help to pay for safety equipment like walkie talkies and other items determined by our school administrators.

Health Week: This week-long campaign, during October, is designed to educate kids about

healthy living.

Helping Hands:  The PTA offers several opportunities throughout the year for community service outreach through Food Drives, Toy Drives, Joy Jar Drives and other events.

Lil Scientist Science Lab Program: A professional instructor leads students in complete scientific labs customized for each grade level. These labs provide the hands-on component that is necessary to understand the Common Core curriculum being studied in the classroom. The STEM lab is 100% funded by PTA, including needed supplies and science teacher.

K-3 Music
- The PTA provides Music Legacy and other assemblies, such as The Imagination Machine, for our primary grades before formal, district-provided music education begins in grades 4-6.

Kids Run the OC:  The Kids Run the OC Program is a 10-12 week program that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle to kids to help prevent the onset of child obesity. During the10-12 weeks, the kids have practice before school, where they accumulate a total of 24.2 miles of exercise through FUN, play activities!  They run the final mile at the Kids Run The OC held in conjunction with The OC Marathon finish line events.

Meet the Masters: MTM teaches students about the lives artists and their works of art.  After learning about the artist's life and career, students create their own masterpiece using the artist's technique. It is 100% funded by the PTA, including all supplies, the lecturer, and art teacher.

Parent Education: The PTA invites speakers to present information relevant to parents, on topics such as cyber safety and child development.

Playground Equipment: The PTA regularly buys balls and other playground equipment for our kids to have a safe, fun recess.  We also will be working with the school district to enhance our playground with new features.

Reflections: This national PTA arts program recognizes student achievement in visual art, photography, dance, music and literature. Winners at the local level can advance up to the state and national levels. Entries are due in early Fall.

Staff Appreciation Week: The PTA coordinates this week in the Spring to show teachers and staff how much they are appreciated.

Technology: The PTA helps maintain up-to-date technology, including Google Chromebooks, iPads and other technology in the classroom.

Walk Throughs:  A Walk Through is an engaging and interactive educational presentation utilizing friendly competition and lively retelling of common core history curriculum; “Walk Through California” for fourth grade, “Walk Through the American Revolution” for fifth grade, and “Walk Through the Ancient World” for sixth grade. Many consider the 2 ½ hour experience to be an unforgettable “in-school field trip.”

A message from our VP of Ways and Means:

October 9, 2023

Hello Melinda Heights families and Happy October! We wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for your incredible support of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and our recent Straight Donation fundraiser. Together we raised $38,000 and we exceeded our fundraising goal thanks to all of our families contributions.

Thanks to your generosity, our PTA has been able to make a meaningful impact on our school community. So far this year the PTA has given teachers $30 per student for classroom supplies (we have just under 1,000 students), hosted family nights, funded educational programs to enrich the students daily learning experience, funded the Science program, provided brand new playground toys and many more amazing programs! This is all from the contributions that our families have made.

We understand that family life is busy, and your willingness to participate in our fundraisers demonstrates your dedication to creating a better educational experience for our children. Your involvement is the driving force behind our success. I invite you to visit our social media to keep up with our monthly dine outs, family nights and much more!

Together, we are making a positive impact on the lives of our students!

Thank you,

Rhonda Wafa
