Your membership dues, donations, fundraising, and volunteer efforts contribute to programs that enrich the school experience of all MHES students. Below is what a typical year looks like. The PTA provides opportunities for engagement and connection, including the Reflections art program, book fairs, health week, family fun opportunities, a Jog-A-Thon, the opportunity to purchase spirit wear, a helping hands NEGU toy drive, maintenance of our disaster preparedness materials, and staff appreciation. We always hope to continue to offer Meet The Masters, STEM Lab, Kids Run the OC, Walk Through History Presentations, Parent Education, and a Yearbook.

Awards: The PTA provides the ROAR buttons awarded to select 1-6 grade students each trimester. Additionally, the PTA provides the promotion certificates for all 6th graders.

Campus Beautification: The PTA makes our campus a better place. In 2019-2020, we upgraded the backpack hooks for classrooms and added art to the students' bathrooms. In 2023-2024, we added a sensory walk and murals to the portables facing the playground. We also added new tiles to the school walls (this project takes place once every 7 years when there is an entirely new student body!)

Chalk Fest: As a spirit-building activity, every classroom creates a chalk art piece for an all-school art walk.

Educational Online Programs - Accelerated Reader & Lexia:  The PTA pays for

online educational programs like Accelerated Reader and Lexia.  Accelerated Reader is an

online program that tests students for comprehension in books that they have read.

Lexia is an online learning program that supports educators in providing differentiated literacy instruction for students of all abilities.

Emergency Preparedness/Safety: The PTA stocks and maintains a disaster bin at the school that includes emergency food rations, water, first aid and hygiene supplies.  We help to pay for safety equipment like walkie talkies and other items determined by our school administrators.

Red Ribbon Week / Health Week: This week-long campaign, during October, is designed to educate kids about healthy living.

Helping Hands:  The PTA offers several opportunities throughout the year for community service outreach through Food Drives, Toy Drives, Joy Jar Drives and other events.

Lil Scientist Science Lab Program: A professional instructor leads students in complete scientific labs customized for each grade level. These labs provide the hands-on component that is necessary to understand the Common Core curriculum being studied in the classroom.

K-3 Music
- The PTA provides Music Legacy and other assemblies, such as The Imagination Machine, for our primary grades before formal, district-provided music education begins in grades 4-6.

Kids Run the OC:  The Kids Run the OC Program is a 10-12 week program that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle to kids to help prevent the onset of child obesity. During the10-12 weeks, the kids have practice before school, where they accumulate a total of 24.2 miles of exercise through FUN, play activities!  They run the final mile at the Kids Run The OC held in conjunction with The OC Marathon finish line events.

Meet the Masters: MTM teaches students about the lives artists and their works of art.  After learning about the artist's life and career, students create their own masterpiece using the artist's technique.

Parent Education: The PTA invites speakers to present information relevant to parents, on topics such as cyber safety and child development.

Playground Equipment: The PTA regularly buys balls and other playground equipment for our kids to have a safe, fun recess.  We also will be working with the school district to enhance our playground with new features.

Reflections: This national PTA arts program recognizes student achievement in visual art, photography, dance, music and literature. Winners at the local level can advance up to the state and national levels. Entries are due in early Fall.

Staff Appreciation Week: The PTA coordinates this week in the Spring to show teachers and staff how much they are appreciated.

Technology: The PTA helps maintain up-to-date technology, including Google Chromebooks, iPads and other technology in the classroom.

Walk Throughs:  A Walk Through is an engaging and interactive educational presentation utilizing friendly competition and lively retelling of common core history curriculum; “Walk Through California” for fourth grade, “Walk Through the American Revolution” for fifth grade, and “Walk Through the Ancient World” for sixth grade.
